Abstract

Egg‐laying and the larvae feeding preferences of Trioza apicalis Först. to selected cultivars of carrot (Daucus carota) were the objectives of the studies carried out in 2007–2009. On the basis of the content of green (chlorophylls a and b) and yellow‐orange (carotenoids) pigments in leaves the differences in the intensity of green colour of leaves between the carrot cultivars were determined. The effect of this feature in carrot cultivars on the preference of egg‐laying by carrot psyllid was determined through the use linear of correlation coefficient „r”. To study the relationships between carrot morphological features and the degree of plant acceptance in laying eggs and/or larvae feeding of Trioza the measurement of hair length, thickness and density on leaves was also done. The obtained results showed that the carrot cultivar Berlikumer 2 (with hairless of leaves) proved to be the most favourable terms to egg‐laying by females, and larvae feeding of T. apicalis. Carrot leaves with long, thick and dense hair were regarded as an important factor limiting egg‐laying and larvae feeding preferences of the pest.
