The agricultural effectiveness of silicon formulations is determined by the bioavailability and stability of the element’s chemical form rather than its total content in the product. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the structural form of silicon and its assimilation by plants, alongside a comparative analysis of products available on the Polish agricultural market. The article characterizes the physicochemical properties of silicates, monomeric orthosilicic acid (H4SiO4), and nanosilica (SiO2), differentiating them in terms of mobility in the soil environment as well as transport and deposition mechanisms in plant tissues. The market analysis revealed a high degree of a lack of uniform standards for declaring chemical composition. A significant issue limiting the direct comparability of products is the parallel use of conversion units for the element (Si and SiO2) and inconsistent reporting on the actual active form of silicon. The results indicate a need to develop consistent standards for composition reporting and qualitative assessment methods, which will allow for more predictable and rational use of silicon products in agricultural practice. |
