Occurrence of Fusarium basal rot of onion (Allium cepa) in selected horticultural farms in Poland and evaluation of disease harmfulness

Streszczenie

Occurrence and population density of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cepae and its harmfulness for onion were the purpose of our studies. Mycological analysis was performed on 91 onion bulbs with basal rot symptoms that were collected from 9 farms, was done. Independently to onion source in each farm Fusarium basal rot caused by F. oxysporum f. sp. cepae (Foc) was noticed. Using of rhododendron leaves as baits, Foc was detected from onion soil samples taken from 19 farms with different pathogen population. Isolate of Foc caused rotting of onion leaves, roots and bulb scales. In greenhouse trial, symptoms of discoloration of leaves and bulbs were observed on at least 50% of plants growing 9 weeks in substratum infested with Foc.


Badano występowanie i liczebność Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cepae na plantacjach cebuli oraz szkodliwość tego gatunku dla roślin. Przeprowadzono analizę mykologiczną 91 porażonych cebul z objawami zamierania szczypioru oraz zgnilizny korzeni i piętki, pobranych z 9 gospodarstw. W każdym z gospodarstw stwierdzono na roślinach występowanie fuzaryjnej zgnilizny piętki powodowanej przez F. oxysporum f. sp. cepae (Foc). Przy zastosowaniu liści różanecznika jako pułapek, w 19 gospodarstwach uprawiających cebulę, stwierdzono występowanie zróżnicowanej liczebności Foc w glebie. Badany izolat Foc powodował zgniliznę szczypioru, korzeni i łusek cebuli. W doświadczeniu szklarniowym, po 9 tygodniach uprawy siewek w podłożu zakażonym przez Foc, symptomy zamierania stwierdzono na co najmniej 50% roślin.
